Having done so much of documentary and fine art based photography I decided to test the water so my portfolio would consist of a wider range of photography genres. I have always been interested in culture, fashion, beauty and product photography. I therefore experimented in these genres and am actually pleased with the outcome.
BEAUTY AND CULTURE
The three of the above images are part of the culture and beauty project. The attire and the props used are part of the traditional clothing for the Maasai tribe of Kenya. Being that I am Kenyan I find that this is ver interesting that even with all the other 47 tribes in the country this is the only tribe that still remained with their traditional outfits as their day to day attires.
Both images were done in the studio and the aim was to be featured in a beauty catalogue category therefore the editing and the composition of the image was taken into so much consideration.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY
These are images that you mostly see in the type of make up advertisement I like the aesthetics in them. One of my inspirations for this type of photography was Tina Eisen
She is a freelance makeup and beauty photographer. Eisen has worked for companies such as MaxFactor, Superdrug, Sephora etc.
I think that this is one of the fields I would like to pursue after my degree. I am happy with the outcome of the shoots.
PROCUCT PHOTOGRAPHY
This is another general of photography that I would be interested in pursuing. The main experimentation for these shoots was the different types of lighting styles for each individual image. This was particularly difficult due to reflection of light on the glass. Considering that this was out of my comfort zone i think the images were very successful. Major artist who work in product and different lighting styles are Karl Taylorand Atton Conrad
Karl Taylor has worked with brands such as Channel, Tom Ford, Prada,Clinique, Dr Dre beats etc and Atton Conrad has worked with Hennessy,Huf Magazine,Pankhurst and many others.
